This course has been designed to support those who work in the temporary power sector but have had no prior electrical training.
The temporary power sector is wide and varied, covering festivals, events, theatre/TV and film productions. Often persons in these industries carry out a wide variety of roles and may find themselves involved with working on or near electricity. An example could be a team of riggers who are also tasked with erecting cabling for lighting up on the trusses/lighting bars.
This training is designed to provide essential electrical science and theory training, along with health and safety information to support these team members in the development of their knowledge and skills when working on the installation of these wiring systems.

This course is an introduction to the requirements of BS 7909 Temporary electrical systems for entertainment and related purpose - code of practice.
It is aimed towards electricians who should already have an understanding of BS 7671, which BS 7909 supplements.
BS 7909 is a code of practice for temporary electrical systems, particularly for entertainment and related purposes. It provides guidance on the design, installation, testing, and management of temporary electrical installations, ensuring safety and compliance with relevant regulations, such as the Electricity at Work Regulations, 1989.

All temporary electrical installations must be carefully designed, selected and erected to ensure both a reliable and safe electrical installation is installed.
Even though they are temporary, these electrical installations can often be installed in high risk environments and erected on temporary structures which can create further hazards. Therefore it is important to identify specific cables and accessories that are more suited in this environments and to achieve a safe selection and use of them.
This course covers the installation competencies required for the installation of these temporary installations and covers both small and large installations as identified under BS 7909.

They will identify the technologies and competencies needed for safe power deployment and they will coordinate will all area managers of the electrical environments to receive certification to BS 7909 and other applicable requirements in a timely manner.
They will then produce a final sign off for the installation to be presented to the event manager.
